Barcelona Highlights + Montserrat (Cog-Wheel) – Full Day

Montserrat
In Barcelona, history and traditions go hand in hand with emerging fashion and new trends in cuisine, culture and art. To experience all the nuances and both of these faces of Barcelona, Julià Travel proposes an itinerary that begins in the historic centre, visiting places such as Vía Laietana, the cathedral and its cloister, the Gothic Quarter and Plaça Sant Jaume. Following this immersion in traditional Barcelona, we approach the place of key change in the city. With the hosting of the Olympic Games, Barcelona opened itself up to the sea and experienced economic and social invigoration. What better way to immerse ourselves in era of change than to visit the Olympic Village and the Olympic Port and then climb Montjuïc to visit the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Calatrava Tower. Finally, we will visit El Poble Espanyol (the Spanish Village), collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain, demonstrating a selection of the handcrafts made in country and providing the opportunity to taste the famous Catalan cava. And what better way to end the visit than with an aerial view of Barcelona from the cable car, which brings us to Montjuïc’s Castle in 15 minutes. After your return to Julià Travel office, you have 2 hours free time before your next tour to Montserrat. After driving through picturesque little villages, you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the mountain of Montserrat, which rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,235 meters). You will go up to Montserrat with Cog – Wheel Train, which leaves you in the middle of the monastery. Next, visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Royal Basilica has been one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Spain for hundreds of years. The price includes a taste of 4 typical liquors of Montserrat and entrance free to Audiovisual “Montserrat Portes Endins”.
