An ancient and noble Minho house probably built in the 16th century though the exact date is unknown. It is recorded, however, that in 1669 the ancestors of the current owners, the Faria de Araújo family, purchased Casa do Ameal for just 3,500 shillings.
This surprising manor house, located at about 1 km from Viana do Castelo, has its own handicrafts and costumes museum and its original architecture is beautifully preserved. In keeping with traditional Minho noble houses the entrance courtyard is adorned with a stone fountain and pond. It is encompassed by ancient verdant trees offering a pleasant atmosphere and guaranteeing total privacy.
This home of over more than four hundred years of fascinating history also allows its visitors to bustle either into the quietness of the Ribeira Lima landscapes or into the charming movement of a small town daily life.
