On entering the splendid gateway of this noble 17th Century manor house, one immediately detects the pervading floral scent. Casa do Campo boasts a prize-winning garden, with its immaculately trimmed Camellias contoured into graceful designs. Specialists claim that the oldest Camellia in Portugal is to be found here. Visitors to this manor will also discover a Renaissance chapel in the grounds which holds a weekly mass.

How to get there:
From Porto Airport: Follow the A4 in direction to Amarante/ Vila Real. Leave the motorway at the exit N.° 17 in direction to Celorico de Basto, and follow the “Via do Tamega” to Fermil / Celorico de Basto for 20 km. 1.5 km before Fermil you will see, at your right, a signpost saying “Turismo de Habitação”. Turn and after about 200m you will come to the house.

Quinta da Mata is a house from the XVII century – with a chapel, located at 3 km from the city of Chaves in the hillside of the “Serra do Brunheiro” surrounded by a thick forest and by copious sources of water.

How to get there:
From Casa do Campo: Leave Casa do Campo, and turn right on the National road, following the direction of Arco de Baulhe. Before you arrive to Arco de Baulhe you will find the entrance to the motorway A7. Follow the motrrway in direction to Vila Real/Chaves. On the end of the A7 turn to A24 in direction to Chaves. Quinta da Mata is at 3 km from Chaves, on the road in direction to Valpaços (EN 213).

The Faria Araújo family who still resides there today purchased Casa do Ameal in 1669 for just 3,500 shillings. It is thought to have been built in the 16th Century, although no exact date is known. In keeping with traditional Minho noble houses the entrance courtyard is adorned with a stone fountain and pond. The proprietors of Ameal have thoughtfully provided an authentic handicrafts and folkloric display, and exhibit antique costumes belonging to their ancestors.

How to get there:
From Quinta da Mata: In Chaves Take the EN2 in Direction to Vila Real. In Vila Real take the IP4/A4 in direction to Porto. In Porto take the IC1/A28 to Viana do Castelo. After 60km, exit the motorway for Viana do Castelo. On the entrance of the city you will find a large roundabout, turn right. Approximately 100 m after in the next roundabout, turn right, drive for around more 150 m and turn right again (just before the hypermarket called Continente). Approximately after 150 m you will find the gates of the house at you left, on the number 119 at Rua do Ameal.
